Hope – Education – Life – Protection
The old saying, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish, feed him for a lifetime,” is the principle we follow through our community programs. While we do provide essential needs such as water purification, generators, food storage equipment, etc., we also will educate and empower the families to become self-sufficient in order to break the vicious cycle of poverty. Through our program we will create job opportunities for family members, institute micro-loans to help small businesses and explore ways the families can farm food for their personal needs.
Giving Hope: Community Program
This word seems small and trivial on the surface. How many times a day do we say HELP, or I need some HELP, or would you HELP me. For many children around the world, HELP is a word that has gone unheard. It is a word they whisper at night in their prayers, it is a word that is silenced by their circumstances as they wake every day to face despair, hopelessness and fear.
SHM has based our programs around the word HELP. It is our duty, our responsibility and our calling to reach these children who do not have a voice. Our sole purpose is to HELP.
Giving Education: Child Education Program
Education is the key to the eradication of poverty that is being passed on from generation to generation. By enabling children to attend schools and by providing additional opportunities to learn is our most effective method of breaking the cycle. Children need uniforms in order to be allowed in school, we will provide these for them. Children are often behind in school due to many reasons; we will provide additional help to these children.
Giving Life: Food Program
Food is a necessity for life. Without it, we cannot think, we cannot learn, we cannot concentrate, and we cannot survive. Food programs will be established in communities where there are a large number of children not getting this basic necessity we all enjoy. The programs will operate through the local church. Children will have access to Nutritional meals. Many of our other programs are based on first feeding the children so they will have the strength to go to school, help their parents, and help their community.
Giving Protection: Building Program
As we reach out to these communities we want to make sure that the children are living in a safe environment, that our food programs are being operated in an adequate facility, and that schools have safe classrooms and/or safe playgrounds for the children. Through our building program, we will evaluate the needs and provide for building projects that meet the needs of the community as a whole.
